lone survivor (windows) (macOS)

In this psychological survival adventure, the masked protagonist must escape from a city ravaged by disease, by any means necessary. Starving and exhausted, he has begun to question how much of what he sees is even real.

A new kind of adventure where the choice of how to survive is up to you. Sneak through without firing a single shot, or kill everything in your path. Eat and sleep well, or resort to drugs to keep going. Search for survivors, or try to escape the city alone. Look after your mental health, or descend into madness. Lone Survivor is a game where your choices genuinely matter.

another najla recommendation.

i wasn’t so sure about the graphics at first, it looked like blurry pixel art? but after 10 minutes or so (after i got used to the controls), i realized how they’re kinda cool/fresh in a way? also, the game looks like it’s for kids, but there’s gore and 18+ language all over this thing and i really really like that.

give it a go!

limbo (windows) (macOS) (playstation) (xbox)

The primary character in Limbo is a nameless boy who awakens in the middle of a forest on the “edge of hell” (the game’s title is taken from the Latin limbus, meaning “edge”). While seeking his missing sister, he encounters only a few human characters, who either attack him, run away, or are dead (via wikipedia)

i’ve been greatly/frustratingly enjoying this game lately. very dark, intense and i absolutely love the graphics and gameplay.

a huge thank you goes to my friend najla for recommending this.

soundcloud downloader (macOS) - because the internet just keeps on giving and giving and giving

i’ve been on an intense music discovery rampage (if that makes any sense) and most of the songs are from soundcloud. very neat, fast and easy to use.

just make sure you support the artists, tell them how much you love them and appreciate their work.

no windows users, i didn’t forget you. here’s the best windows version i could find, please let me know if it works nicely.

happy hunting!

ps: everything is free!

science:

A Slower Speed of Light is a free little game from the MIT Game Lab. It visually demonstrates the effects of relativity. You move around in the first person picking up orbs which slow down the speed of light—the effect being that your normal walking speed inches ever closer to light speed. When you move faster—or light moves slower—colors begin to morph as the invisible shifts into the visible spectrum, until finally time and space themselves start bending. Very trippy, but based on real physics.

available for macOS and windows

journey (ps3) (pc)

it’s pretty difficult to explain this game because i honestly didn’t know what i was doing. the only instructions i had was the controls and i just did what i always do and that is to ‘keep walking straight ahead till you see something that is (un)familiar’ (seriously good advice for people who get lost). this game is very very magical, i’m not sure if it’s the graphics or the soundtrack but it is very overwhelming (and i might have teared a bit, too beautiful). that being said, i thought it was a bit too short? nonetheless, perfect game. you can even watch people play it and you’ll have so much fun/tear from joy.

The Walking Dead (PS3) (Windows)

The living will have to survive amongst the dead in this game based on The Walking Dead, the widely acclaimed comic book series and television series. Across five dark and emotional episodes of gameplay, every decision and action you take can result in the entire story of the game changing around you.

Play as Lee Everett, a convicted criminal, who has been given a second chance at life in a world devastated by the undead. With corpses returning to life and survivors stopping at nothing to maintain their own safety, protecting an orphaned girl named Clementine may offer him redemption in a world gone to hell.

what a nerve wrecking, heart breaking and tear jerking experience. i’m in the third episode (out of 5) and this is by far the best video game i’ve ever played. everything depends on what you say and how you deal with situations with other characters. it’s like one interactive film and good lord there shall be tears. (maybe suicidal thoughts, depends on you, really). very much recommended!

a huge thank you to aziz for forcing me to get it as soon as possible, no regrets.
