De mayor quiero ser soldado (I want to be a soldier)(2010)

I Want To Be A Soldier” is the story of Alex, an average eight year old kid who seems to grow a morbid fascination for images portraying violence. He begins to develop a communication problem with his parents and other kids at school, and closes in on himself, inventing two imaginary friends..

Another brilliant film recommended by the awesome Ahmad. This is one of those films that contains a pretty obvious message, but will still surprise you. Also, the kid reminds me of a younger Natalie Portman in ‘V for Vendetta’, he plays his part so damn well.

I don’t usually do this, but the imaginary friend is probably the best actor I’ve seen in a while. I loved his role in the whole film. Overall, this film is more about real life, rather than entertainment.

May 18The story of events leading up to the 1980 Gwangju massacre in South Korea when thousands of students and protesters were killed by armed troops during an anti-government demonstration.

Have you ever thought of what happens in a battle field? During war and actual combat? Yes, people get shot and killed, others get decapitated, fire and explosions everywhere. Now, think of it on a more humane level, what do you see? A person loses a friend, a mother loses a son, a kid loses a father, a young man loses a brother, a mentor gets killed in action, the trauma after killing another person, another human being, even if they were the enemy .This is what this film is about. It’s a true story based on 71 students who were drafted for war, and how their actions played a big role in the North/South Korean war. Very emotional, slightly graphic, brilliantly filmed and deeply realistic.
a must watch for any War-film fanatic.

A pragmatic U.S. Marine observes the dehumanizing effects the Vietnam War has on his fellow Marine recruits from their brutal boot camp training to the bloody street fighting set in 1968 in Hue, Vietnam.

wouldn’t call it my ultimate favorite war-film, but it was recommended by many and i enjoyed it.

Documentary: Why we fight

Why-we-fight-movie-poster-2005-1020350764

Is American foreign policy dominated by the idea of military supremacy? Has the military become too important in American life? Jarecki’s shrewd and intelligent polemic would seem to give an affirmative answer to each of these questions.

Documentary: Gunner Palace - Iraq conflict and Occupation

Gunner-palace-movie-poster-2005-1020258298

American soldiers of the 2/3 Field Artillery, a group known as the “Gunners,” tell of their experiences in Baghdad during the Iraq War. Holed up in a bombed out pleasure palace built by Sadaam Hussein, the soldiers endured hostile situations some four months after President George W. Bush declared the end of major combat operations in the country.

Mixed feelings about this.
