lone survivor (windows) (macOS)
In this psychological survival adventure, the masked protagonist must escape from a city ravaged by disease, by any means necessary. Starving and exhausted, he has begun to question how much of what he sees is even real.
A new kind of adventure where the choice of how to survive is up to you. Sneak through without firing a single shot, or kill everything in your path. Eat and sleep well, or resort to drugs to keep going. Search for survivors, or try to escape the city alone. Look after your mental health, or descend into madness. Lone Survivor is a game where your choices genuinely matter.
another najla recommendation.
i wasn’t so sure about the graphics at first, it looked like blurry pixel art? but after 10 minutes or so (after i got used to the controls), i realized how they’re kinda cool/fresh in a way? also, the game looks like it’s for kids, but there’s gore and 18+ language all over this thing and i really really like that.
give it a go!

limbo (windows) (macOS) (playstation) (xbox)
The primary character in Limbo is a nameless boy who awakens in the middle of a forest on the “edge of hell” (the game’s title is taken from the Latin limbus, meaning “edge”). While seeking his missing sister, he encounters only a few human characters, who either attack him, run away, or are dead (via wikipedia)
i’ve been greatly/frustratingly enjoying this game lately. very dark, intense and i absolutely love the graphics and gameplay.
a huge thank you goes to my friend najla for recommending this.

Sala Samobójców (Suicide Room) (2011)
Dominik is an ordinary boy. He’s got loads of friends, the hottest girl in school, rich parents and money to spend on brand-name clothes. But one innocent kiss with a mate changes everything. He begins to isolate himself from the outside world, spending all his time on his computer. He meets an anonymous girl who introduces him to the “suicide room”, a place from which there is no escape. Caught in a trap woven of his own emotions, Dominik becomes entangled in a web of intrigue and gradually loses what he cherishes most.
this was my first polish film and probably the reason i want to watch many more. very intense. approximately half of the film takes place in this virtual world, very refreshing and sadly entertaining watch.
thank you najla.
any other good polish films?
The Chumscrubber (2005)
A darkly satiric story about life crumbling in the midst of a seemingly idyllic suburbia
very funny (dark), and sad. the main character tries to deal with the suicide of his best friend, and a lot of things get out of hand in this “perfect” suburbia. a very enjoyable watch. the only thing i disliked was the choice of music, didn’t seem fitting, but i think it was meant to not-sound-appropriate, a tad cheerful in dramatic and intense scenes.
nonetheless, a must watch.

A thriller centered on a serial killer in a rundown London suburb
very graphic. the film felt a bit short? nonetheless, a good watch.

Truth or Dare
Young British boys and girls travel to an isolated cabin after being promised a night of heavy partying. Instead of the fun they hoped for, they meet a killer out to reap vengeance on them for the death of his brother.
i must admit, i was wrong about judging this film from the poster and the description. just seemed like another friday the 13th, nightmare on elm’s street freddy jason and whatever lame horror films that exist in this world.
not at all!
brilliant plot and filming. the english (as in british) do know how to make good horror films. i think this was my first? not sure.
any good english horror films?
thank you najla for recommending this.
