one thing i do is download a lot of applications, test them and choose one for every task/function and delete the rest. here’s a list of the best apps (and the ones i currently use):
(i will update this when i find anything as important as these)
fluid (macOS) - turn your favorite web applications/sites into desktop apps
it is no surprise how much i love feedly, but i’m not always on my iphone or ipad and i have been looking for something like this for quite some time now since feedly on my browser is just not practical.
yay for technology.
The Free Bundle - Handpicked Free Indie games you may have missed. All awesome, all free. (Mostly windows, but some MacOS games too)
so much glory. (these are only some of the bundles)
sword and sorcery (S&S) (macOS)(iOS)(windows)(android) - trailer
Sword and sorcery is an exploratory action adventure with an emphasis on audiovisual style. Traverse a mythic little realm, use a sword to do battle & evoke sworcery to solve mystical musical mysteries. Co-operate with friends via Twitter, experience a videogame world that is affected by moon phases & help a wandering warrior monk complete her woeful errand.
this game is important, and that’s all i can relaly say about it. wicked puzzles, epic battles, neat music, smart-ass douche with instructions, mad OST (obsessing over jim guthrie’s work like there’s no tomorrow).
overall, the best way to spend a couple of dollars.
a huge thank you to kayla for reminding me of its existence.
ps: it’s free in the apple store and 63% off in steam. go go go!
hotline miami (windows) (macOS) - trailer
Hotline Miami is a high-octane action game overflowing with raw brutality, hard-boiled gunplay and skull crushing close combat. Set in an alternative 1989 Miami, you will assume the role of a mysterious antihero on a murderous rampage against the shady underworld at the behest of voices on your answering machine.
i rarely get hooked on games as fast i got hooked on hotline miami. i’m not sure if it’s from the awesome graphics, simple controllers, wicked OST or the combination of everything plus the witty comments/dialogues.
a must download.
it’s currently available on steam with a 50% discount!
In 2097, life is discovered on Mars. When your mission of first contact becomes trapped by a cave-in, you must master the alien ecosystem to survive. Soon you stumble upon more than anyone expected, and with time running out, you will make a decision that determines the fate of a lost planet.
Waking Mars is a one-of-a-kind adventure in which you jetpack through subterranean Mars encountering a host of extraordinary alien lifeforms that operate as a living, breathing ecosystem. Learn and master the behaviors of these creatures to create ecosystems of your own design if you are to survive and discover the secrets of Mars’ past.
science fiction at its finest.
In this psychological survival adventure, the masked protagonist must escape from a city ravaged by disease, by any means necessary. Starving and exhausted, he has begun to question how much of what he sees is even real.
A new kind of adventure where the choice of how to survive is up to you. Sneak through without firing a single shot, or kill everything in your path. Eat and sleep well, or resort to drugs to keep going. Search for survivors, or try to escape the city alone. Look after your mental health, or descend into madness. Lone Survivor is a game where your choices genuinely matter.
another najla recommendation.
i wasn’t so sure about the graphics at first, it looked like blurry pixel art? but after 10 minutes or so (after i got used to the controls), i realized how they’re kinda cool/fresh in a way? also, the game looks like it’s for kids, but there’s gore and 18+ language all over this thing and i really really like that.
give it a go!
The primary character in Limbo is a nameless boy who awakens in the middle of a forest on the “edge of hell" (the game’s title is taken from the Latin limbus, meaning “edge”). While seeking his missing sister, he encounters only a few human characters, who either attack him, run away, or are dead (via wikipedia)
i’ve been greatly/frustratingly enjoying this game lately. very dark, intense and i absolutely love the graphics and gameplay.
a huge thank you goes to my friend najla for recommending this.
soundcloud downloader (macOS) - because the internet just keeps on giving and giving and giving
i’ve been on an intense music discovery rampage (if that makes any sense) and most of the songs are from soundcloud. very neat, fast and easy to use.
just make sure you support the artists, tell them how much you love them and appreciate their work.
no windows users, i didn’t forget you. here’s the best windows version i could find, please let me know if it works nicely.
ps: everything is free!
A Slower Speed of Light is a free little game from the MIT Game Lab. It visually demonstrates the effects of relativity. You move around in the first person picking up orbs which slow down the speed of light—the effect being that your normal walking speed inches ever closer to light speed. When you move faster—or light moves slower—colors begin to morph as the invisible shifts into the visible spectrum, until finally time and space themselves start bending. Very trippy, but based on real physics.
available for macOS and windows
